Dear beloved,
We bring you greeting in the powerful name of our soon
coming King, Jesus. We remain grateful for your timeless prayer and support for
this ministry. We appreciate it so much, may God bless you. God has been
faithful to us, and we want to share our recent news. Running a YWAM ministry
in a postwar country like ours is not easy. The base has been open and closed
three times now, due to the civil war. Now that we are open, the truth is that
there are still challenges.
Most of our work for the past six months has been
focused on training and evangelism, with some community development.
Training: DTS
We are grateful to God for the Discipleship
Training School (DTS) which has just finished. Because of limited resources, we
thought that it was impossible to run this DTS. We were going through a
transition and all we had on hand was $125.00(our piece of rod). We needed to
do some repairs, recruit students, and scout out for speakers etc. Despite
these challenges we still felt God speaking to us to go ahead. Two weeks to the
opening of school we had only two students that send in their application
forms. We continued this faith adventure with the setting up of the dorms and
repairing the bath rooms.
Then we ran out of money five days
before the school started, but the student numbers had increased to three, with
no fees "Is it really you God that has told us to do this? This was the
question we asked ourselves. Then, we still went further and borrowed $100.00
to buy food. We arranged to pay back the money, when the students had paid some
fees.
But by the end of the first week we had five
students and through a church in UK God provided additional $603.00 for YWAM
Liberia. This amount was to be used for the DTS and other things including
renovation. So we completed the dorms, the bathrooms for the students and
amount left over was used to continue our base life. Wasn't that awesome? From
these experiences, we have developed a greater faith in God to supply our needs.
The lecture phase was a great blessing
as students and staff met with God in powerful ways. Then we all went on
outreach to Guinea, which
borders Liberia
on its northern perimeter. Our
three hours prayer walk last year into Guinea with the Australian DTS team
yielded its intended fruit. We worked with a church in Nzerekori,
Guinea, three hours drive
from the border with Liberia.
We proclaimed the gospel with a drama on the heart of man, with translation
into French and Kpelle, (the language of the major tribe in that community). At
the end of the drama, ten people gave their lives to Christ. After this, we
travelled into other villages and shared the gospel.
Leadership
development
We are also working on a leadership
development seminar with some churches in the Gardnersville area, a suburb of Monrovia. The problem in Liberia and the rest of Africa
is leadership. We have resources, but we don't have good managers. So, if the
church can be challenged in this area, we believe, it will bring tremendous blessings.
God told Adam to "take care of the garden", Gen. 1:28. Our country needs godly
leaders, who will champion the cause of the poor and needy. If there will be
any transformation, it must start with the Christians. We are trying to develop
Darrow Miller's teaching, "Discipling
Nations through Community Transformation" to make it relevant to the needs of
our people.
Evangelism
We have had some of our presence felt in
the offices and prison. But this year, we plan to take our drama team to
schools, streets and use our mega phone in proclaiming Jesus Christ. We want to
see more youth trained in the area of drama. For the past six months, we have
been involved on one-on-one evangelism around the YWAM base. We have people
from the community coming to our weekly community fellowship on Thursday
evenings. It has been an exciting time. One evening an elderly man entered our
fellowship and asks us to pray for him and his household to be committed to
God. This brought joy to our heart to know that what we were doing was impacting
our community.
Mercy
Ministries
We plan on training community development
facilitators and potential leaders, who will teach and mobilize their community
in undertaking development programs. If you would like a copy of our project proposal
to help raise funds for our community development projects, please don't
hesitate to contact us. There is a lot that you can do for Liberia right
now. We need help in developing this ministry, especially people to come with
passion and skills in community development.
Youth
Ministry
Recently, we met with the representative of Lifeline-Liberia, Rev. Swallie. We
believe that when two work together, they can be more effective, we are
planning on entering into partnership with Lifeline in the area of youth development.
We have targeted a community outside of Monrovia
to erect a youth center. Activity in this center will include; soccer game, Bible
teaching, indoor games, health talk on HIV/AIDS, and Hygiene. We plan to also
get them involved in small community development project and a weekly
interactive forum on reconciliation.

God has been faithful to us, running a base in a postwar
country like ours is not easy. The base has been open and closed three times
now, due to the civil war. Now that we are open, the truth remains that there
are still challenges. We need a minimum of $500 (exchanging staff fees) to run
this base monthly. The staff are contributing a little toward this amount; most
of them are finding it difficult to raise even $25.00 per month to contribute
to community life. It will cost $75.00 for a single person to live basically in
Liberia.
For a family of three, it will cost $150.00 monthly. This is a real challenge
for us. So could you please join us in prayer for base and staff support.
